Recurring tournaments, series and festivals around Rome 30

Three evenings of the Roman working week have a tournament of their own. These midweek opens are played one round a week over a month or two: Tuesday with Lazio Scacchi in Prati, Wednesday at the Scuola Popolare di Scacchi, Thursday at the Accademia Scacchistica Romana. Weekends belong to the rapid series of the Accademia, Steinitz and Frascati and to the youth qualifiers that feed the national junior championship.

Festivals mark the year: the Befana festival at Epiphany, spring and autumn weekends in Tivoli and Marino, June by the sea in Casal Palocco and Ladispoli, an August festival in the castle of Santa Severa, and Roma Città Aperta in December. Nearly all of them ask players to register in advance, and the rated ones expect a federation card. A series is listed here only when more than one edition can be shown; halls change from year to year, so the organiser’s page is the last word on the next date.
