More about this page

Several circoli around Rome build part of their week around young players. The Scuola Popolare di Scacchi lists a ladder of youth courses in its timetable, Quattro Pedoni in Balduina holds its courses, children’s among them, on Saturday afternoons from late September, and Easyscacchi announces its youth courses at the start of October. In Ladispoli the Zichichi circle runs a federation school for primary-school children on Sunday mornings.

Three clubs are known above all for junior tournaments: Ostia Scacchi, the Vitinia club and Frascati Scacchi each host qualifiers for the national youth championship, and the regional committee counts Vitinia and Frascati among its federal chess schools. Age bands, fees and whether a parent is expected to stay are rarely written down, so ask the club when you enrol a child. The list also includes a chess workshop that a comprehensive school runs for its own lower-secondary pupils; it takes no one from outside.
