More about this page

A Roman circolo is usually an amateur sports association affiliated to the Italian chess federation, with a room of its own or a few hours a week in an oratory, a cultural centre or a seniors’ centre. The Accademia Scacchistica Romana near Tiburtina station keeps its doors open most of the week; Steinitz in Conca d’Oro gives Saturday afternoons to free play; Quattro Pedoni in Balduina opens on Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening and says guests may come.

Towards the coast there are the clubs of Vitinia, Casal Palocco and Ostia, and outside the city there are circoli in Frascati, Ariccia, Tivoli, Mentana, Ladispoli, Anzio and Canale Monterano, near Lake Bracciano. Some entries are known only from the federation’s register: they are affiliated for the current year, but no page read shows a club night or an event, and their cards say so. Where the register and a club’s own site give different addresses, the card says which page gives which.
